A journey to the city of bikes, canals and tulips for the winner!

This year’s edition of the Jawor-Parkiet Design Awards was very popular among designers and architects. Formal review of the works submitted for the contest yielded 216 participants with 746 works.

To enter the contest, one had to submit their works in one of two categories: Design or Completed Project. In accordance with the Contest Regulations, the jury should have selected the winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and 2 honorable mentions per one category based on the quality of submitted designs and completed projects (representation of the floor format and color) and the originality of the design, practicality, aesthetic qualities and functionality. However, given the exceptional quality of designs, the jury decided that all four honorable mentions should go to visualization authors. The award for the best completed project went to one of the recipients of honorable mentions.

Like every year, the award was composed of two parts – the winners received vouchers worth PLN 8000/4000/2000 respectively, and all winners, recipients of honorable mentions and the jury, including Tomasz Pągowski, went on an inspiring trip to Amsterdam from 22.06-24.06.

However, the main point of the day was the presentation of awards to the winners for the best design and completed project featuring a Jawor-Parkiet floor. During the ceremony, Antoni Jan Gawiński, President of Jawor-Parkiet, thanked everyone for being with him on that inspiring journey and expressed hope that there would be other common initiatives such as that one.

There was nothing boring about the second day of the trip, either. The sightseeing program included: the Lady Square facing the Royal Palace, a stroll down the canals (Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht) with a focus on the architecture of residential and merchant buildings, as well as the Netherlands’ leading national museum – Rijjksmuseum, which really impressed the visitors. In the afternoon, everybody went on a relaxing cruise down the Amsterdam canals that the city is famous for.

In the remaining time, they visited Pathé Tuschinski, the world’s most beautiful cinema, and the World Press Photo exhibition available at De Nieuwe Kerk – a 15th century church at the Lady Square. The late evening point of the program was the most intriguing tourist attraction of the city – the Erotic Museum.

The trip ended with a visit to the Jordann artistic district full of galleries, boutiques and pubs. Until the first half of the 20th century, it was the poorest part of Amsterdam and the city wanted to tear it down. Thanks to the local residents’ protests, the authorities did not go through with the demolition and the district underwent a complete renovation. Today, it is the most expensive street in Amsterdam and a home to artists, students and young entrepreneurs.

The journey to the Netherlands’ capital city was full of wonderful moments, interesting conversations and amazing experiences that we hope will encourage everyone’s creativity and inspire them to create further amazing designs. We want to thank everyone who went on this journey for being with us and for the good time we had together!
