Youth and Creativity Win!

Golden Eight
The organizer of the competition invited eight finalists to Milan. On 13-16 March, Made Expo 2019 was held there, the true celebration of design, the international fair of architecture and building industry. The creativity of entries needed a proper setting; therefore, the gala was held at a designer location — Ceresio 7 restaurant, on the top of a marvellous terrace of a historic Enel building, the house of the Dsquared2 group. Located on the fourth floor of the historic palace, the restaurant combines the use of copper, marble, wood, and vintage colours. The view of Milan is made complete with superb cuisine, being the reinterpretation of Italian classics with modern accents straight from the Michelin Guide.
As Janusz Gawiński, Managing Director of Jawor-Parkiet, emphasized Contestants were anonymous to jurors who assessed their works. Therefore, they could only see a design there and then, without referring to any earlier achievements of designers or their names. As a consequence, our competition was won by young people, new to the designing community. This fresh look at design is very important for us. The idea of the competition also worked out. We wanted to support those who start their careers in the sector and to be an ambassador of design on a high level.
Winners of Jawor-Parkiet Design Awards stressed that it gave them a chance to present themselves to the industry, show their frequently new look at the issue of interior design, and make new business relationships.
The winner of the competition, Jan Stępień, summarised the event as follows: The trip to Milan was an unforgettable experience. In addition to the enchanting architecture of the city, Italian lifestyle, and delicious food, I had a chance to meet great many people from the architecture sector.
After the awards ceremony, everyone could celebrate their victory in the fashionable Just Cavalli Milano cor.

Entries and Positive Surprise Effect
When receiving entries, we were nicely surprised by their creativity, not in the context of applying floors in a specific interior, but rather by the approach of architects to a product in general. For example, for the needs of their design they built a new plank graphically out of our textures, summarised Sebastian Sklepik, Key Account Manager at Jawor-Parkiet. We have no Chevron model in the Retro collection, but it was not a problem for designers. They liked the colour and texture, so they created a new arrangement solution for this collection.
We could admire the courage of entries in combining colours and shades. There is a growing trend of mixing a number of colours on a single floor. The mix of colours in the same range of shades in combination with other elements of interior design created an exceptional effect.

What are wooden floors combined with most often?
When we assessed entries, we could see that designers quite often recognised that a natural product, a wooden floor, goes harmoniously in space with interiors of old tenements and lofts. It does not mean that modern construction cannot be combined with natural wood. Most designs presented an arrangement of a living room and a bedroom.

Floor-Wall-Ceiling
The use of parquet and boards on the surface of a ceiling, a wall, and a floor also stood out among the entered designs. Solutions that allowed to obtain the effect of enlarging spaces were interesting, for example through the fluent combination of wood on the door with wood on an adjacent wall.

Designers Chose Retro, and what about Jury?
The collection that was used in designs most often was Retro Collection. The combination of textures and colouring from Pure Line, Brusherd Line, and Handmade Line was most popular, which proves the excellent arrangement opportunities of this premium collection made by Jawor-Parkiet.
The jury comprised architects, interior design experts, and representatives of the organiser. The jury meeting was stormy, as we chose different designs. Each of us took a different element into consideration. It was important, in addition to technical aspects, as an architect serving in the jury emphasized, how the whole interior design was in harmony with the floor. An important criterion was if there was air and space in the presented interior that would enable to ‘breathe’ it and function well, summarised the discussions Sebastian Sklepik.

Participation – Mutual Benefits
As a business we can see a large number of benefits from organising the competition. Its effects are magnificent visualizations, which will certainly support the sales of our floors, said Grzegorz Sadowski, Commercial Director at Jawor-Parkiet. But most importantly, we have received numerous inspirations from competitors on how to create new colours of products, or compositions of products.
